Nairobi! There are so many opportunities to find love. The process can be heartbreaking and disappointing. There is nothing like the adrenaline that drove so many women who were holding their breaths in anticipation of the flowers, chocolates, dinner, and gifts. Might I be so bold to say that some were even waiting for the man to get down on one knee? On the other hand a majority just couldn’t wait for the day to be over! This lot learned to manage their expectations (simply means they never have expectations anymore) as has been dictated by past valentines a day there is nothing to write home about.

The men on the other hand (We are talking about the real ones here, not the ones who attended the #MensConference2021) were as varied as they exist. Each man had his own style and swag. Here are the six types of men I observed this past Valentine:

The Romantic

He is the man every woman wants. On Valentine’s Day, he meant business! He planned everything in detail and made sure his woman was spoilt rotten. He is Mr. Smooth, the perfect Knight in Shining armor. Of course he bought chocolate, wine, and a bouquet. That was not all; he also organized a serenade for his woman over dinner. The bar was super high with this man. Overall he was the best, cutest and highest scorer this valentine. The cutest part was his spontaneity and grand romantic gestures.

The Disappearing/Ghost man

He is the man that ghosted you on Valentine’s Day. You could have used smoke signals and fireworks and he would not answer your calls or show up. He left you panicked and confused. This week he has risen from the dead and is acting as if nothing happened. He is expecting you to move on too.

The Hater

He had strong opinions on why people should not celebrate Valentines’ Day. He was not afraid to bash everyone around them. Either something bad happened that related to the day, or he felt like the day was a waste of time. Either way, you did not expect anything from this man on Valentines’ day.

The Philosopher

This man will had so many reasons to avoid celebrating Valentines’ day with you. He must have told you that he does not need Valentines’ day to show you, love. He has no ounce of religion in him but he did point out that Valentines is not a religious celebration and even earmarked it evil. If your man insisted that Valentines’ Day is a cliché, he is a philosopher! Do not try to change him because it will be pointless.

The Drive-by

You do not consider him a romantic. He rarely spoils you. Yet, on Valentines’ Day, he took you out, bought you gifts and flowers. You will felt so special that you could bet your salary he has changed. After valentines’, he has gone back to his default behavior. Do not fret Sister; there is another Valentine’s Day next year!

The Rebound

He is single and lonely. He teased his friends for being in committed relationships. On Valentine’s Day, he was quick to look for single ladies to coax into spending time with him. He was so charming that you believed it is love at first sight, despite everything you went through to impress him; he has not returned your call since Valentine’s Day. Now you are wiser, next year you shall also be older and not so easy to trick!

If this Valentine’s Day did not go too well, don’t sulk, there shall be Valentine’s Day next year and I promise it shall be better, bigger and more romantic, only if you start to train your man now! You have 12 months to go, Go Girl!
